Abstract (EN)

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, which is authorized to determine the general construction rules of buildings due to earthquakes that occur in our country, aims to build structures that are resistant to earthquake loads by introducing instructions and standards that contain the necessary rules for the design and construction of buildings in general. Within the scope of this purpose, the regulation "Principles on buildings to be constructed in earthquake zones" was decided and published in 2007. In the regulation, it is stated within the scope of the articles how the soil qualities of the already constructed buildings should be determined. In this case, the classes of soils are categorized as a, b, c, d, ranked from the highest level to the lowest level in terms of load-bearing capacity. Local soil groups are defined according to the thickness of the layer on the top surface of the soil layer and the soil type as z1, z2, z3 and z4. According to the regulation data, it is appropriate to prepare a ground investigation report for existing or newly constructed structures. Within the scope of this thesis study, the rapid renovation of buildings that were found to be earthquake-proof as a result of the earthquake that occurred recently in Malatya-Elazığ epicenter due to the movement in the Eastern Anatolian Fault, and the construction of resistant structures has accelerated. The most important requirement for obtaining strong structures is the foundations we use to transfer the load of the structures to the ground, and most importantly, the bearing capacity of the ground. Today's rapid population growth and the increase in the rate of industrialization and urbanization cause the rapid completion of building sites in Turkey. For this reason, every new day makes it necessary to use new zoning areas (Özdemir, A. and Özdemir, M., 2006). With the increase in the population rate, the sensitivity to the worn-out nature increases, the availability of suitable areas for new areas that may be opened for development in case of development, and the structures that should be located in and around industrial zones is constantly decreasing. As a result of this situation, in order to use engineering services with the best efficiency, it has become necessary to use regions with inadequate soils in terms of their properties. Construction on such soils causes engineering problems such as liquefaction, bearing capacity, settlement, groundwater status and soil qualities to be on the agenda. In this regard, bringing soils with insufficient bearing capacity into usable condition by using appropriate reclamation methods is both a more economical and environmentally friendly option. Within the scope of this thesis, necessary evaluations were made on the ground on which the building in the central neighborhood of Elazığ province will be built, and an earthquake-resistant structure and ground was tried to be created, which would support the structure safely and taking into account the tectonic structure of the region. Necessary experiments and studies were carried out, and ground improvement was found appropriate as a result of the data obtained. By using the method, the soil was improved, bearing capacity, liquefaction etc. Necessary calculations were made before and after, taking into account the risks, and it was modeled using the finite element method.
