Abstract (EN)

In order to understand post-hegira period which is called Madina period of the prophethood in the history of Islam, it is required to know Madina resident Muslims who opened their homes to Macca resident Muslims. The institution of family and marriage which is cornerstone of the society has also important place in Madina society. When the family structure of the Madina resident Muslims who are called the Ansar is reviewed over the life of women being main member of the family, we see that woman has a significant place in Madina society. The spouses of the Ansar who nearly competed with men to obey to Prophet of Allah after becoming Muslim undertook key roles in living and protection of Islam. They showed usefulness behind the front or in battlefield, sometimes going to the war as well as urging their spouses and children to participate in the military campaigns. While the conditions of the period forced woman to married life, it contain no final judgements about how this marriage should take place. Although the wives of the Ansar married once in general, they had no problem in getting married second, third or fourth times in case of death of their spouses or divorcement. Despite the fact that the wives of the Ansar mostly preferred to get married to the persons who belonged to their tribes in terms of spouse selection, they also got married to other tribes which existed in Madina society, even to the men outside Madina, especially the persons who belonged to Quraysh Tribe. The marriage outside Madina aims at strengthening relationship between tribes particularly. When we search the wives of the Ansar, we also encounter with the wives who married many times as well as those for whom we could not find any information about their married life. Lack of any finding about married life of the Ansar's wives does not mean these wives never got married. Either these wives gave no birth to or their children passed away at early age or as their spouses had no outstanding position in society, their marriage could not be determined. Keywords: Woman, Madina, The Ansar, Aws Tribe, Khazraj Tribe, Family.
