Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to explain happiness in the philosophy of Epicure. Furthermore, in order to explain Epicure's thought, the thesis aims to investigate main characteristics and philosophy of Hellenistic period. Epicurean cosmology, soul, ethics will be analyzed. In the context of the philosophy of Epicure, the primary terms that will be used are happiness (eudaimonia), desire (epithymia), pleasure (hedone), soul tranquality (ataraksia) and virtue (arete). The relation between desire, pleasure and happiness will be revealed with reference to the concept of happiness in Epicure's ethics. Keywords: Eudaimonia, Epithymia, Hedone, Ataraksia, Arete.
