Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted in a descriptive type to determine seizure self efficacy in children with epilepsy. The children of 62 with epilepsy between the ages of 8 and 17 who applied to the pediatric neurology outpatient clinic of a university hospital in Trabzon city center were included in the study. The research data were collected using the Child Information Form and the Seizure Self Efficacy Scale in Children with Epilepsy. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences 24.0 package program. Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test, Tamhane test and Sperman correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. The mean age of mothers of children with epilepsy participating in the study was 38.80±5.30, and the mean age of fathers was 41.69±6.00 years. The average number of children in the family is 2.77±0.91. The mean age of the children with epilepsy is 11.67±1.71 and the average of the class they attend is 6.22±2.09. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference seizure self-efficacy between child's family type, school success, presence of other epilepsy patients in the family, duration of diagnosis, regular use of medication, limiting playing games and spending time with friends, limiting participation in sports activities, limiting participation in social activities, duration of the last seizure (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a positive relationship between the age of the child with epilepsy and seizure self-efficacy, and a negative relationship between the number of children in the family and the age of the mother and seizure self-efficacy (p<0.05). As a result, it was determined that the seizure self-efficacy levels of children with epilepsy were moderate. Determining seizure self-efficacy in children with epilepsy is extremely important in terms of disease management. Nurses should determine the child's seizure self-efficacy level and contribute positively to the process of managing the child's seizures and coping with the disease with the training they provide
