Investigation of MIR-451A expression in epithelial ovarian cancer

Abstract (EN)
Epithelial ovarian cancer occurs as a result of uncontrolled division and proliferation of ovarian cells. Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide, despite gains in diagnosis and treatments over the past 30 years. Due to the limited screening methods and delayed diagnosis in ovarian cancer, the majority of patients apply to the clinic with advanced disease during diagnosis, and the 5-year survival rate in these patients remains at ~ 20%. The poor prognosis of ovarian cancer is mainly due to the emergence of chemotherapy resistance, tumor metastasis or relapse of the disease. For this reason, prognostic markers are needed for treatment personalization, follow-up and early diagnosis. Recent studies and information from them show that various miRNAs are effective in the development of ovarian cancer. For this reason, it is thought that miRNAs can be used as biomarkers in both diagnosis and treatment. In the study group consisting of 150 patients with ovarian cancer and 100 healthy controls, miR-451a gene expression was investigated and compared between the two groups. It was observed that the expression level increased by 12.5 times and statistically significant (p <0.05) between these two groups. Oral contraceptive use with miR-451a expression level (p = 0.429), presence of metastasis (p = 0.948), tumor diameter (p = 0.716), age at diagnosis (p = 0.081), menopausal status (p = 0.923), total in the family ovarian cancer in the family, while the number of cancer (p = 0.447), infertility (p = 0.627), pregnancy (p = 0.699), the relationship between staging (p = 0.499) and no statistical significance (p> 0.05) and statistical significance was found between breast cancer case numbers and miR- 451a expression (p = 0.018). In addition, according to ROC analysis, miR-451a molecule was found to be a biological marker for ovarian cancer.
