Examination of smart phone addiction in adolescents in terms of self control

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the smart phone addiction of adolescents in terms of self control. The research is descriptive and survey model was used. The sample of the research consists of 868 high school students selected by appropriate sampling method from Simav Town of Kütahya Province. "Personal Information Form", "Smart Phone Addiction Scale-Short Version" and "Selfcontrol Scale" was used as data collection tool. Frequency and percentage, rank mean, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test (K-S), Kruskal Wallis H-Test, Mann Whitney U-Test and Spearman Brown Correlation Analysis was used for analysis of the data. As a result of the research, a significiant moderate negative correlation was found between the level of smart phone addiction in adolescents and level of self control. Adolescents' smart phone addiction level doesn't differ according to gender, class level, father education status, parental control of smart phone use but on the other hand it differs significantly according to mother education status and smart phone usage time. While the self control level of adolescents and each subdimension of self control don't differ according to gender, class level, father education status and experiental self control level doesn't differ to mother education status, adolescents' self control level differs significantly according to the mother education status and regenerative and reperative self control levels of sub-dimensions of self control.
