The relation of the trait anger and anger expression styles of the adolescents to the parents attitudes

This study was conducted to investigate whether there is a significant difference between adolescents' trait anger and anger expression styles and their parents' attitudes.The sample of the research consists of a total of 1000 students, 500 girls and 500 boys in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of 12 different secondary education institutions in the districts of Çukurova, Seyhan, Yüreğir and Sarıçam in the province of Adana in 2015-2016 academic year.In this research, some sources have been used such as "Parental Attitude Scale" developed by Kuzgun and Eldeleklioğlu (2005) to measure the attitudes of the parents, "Trait Anger and Anger Expression Styles" adapted to Turkish by Özer (1994) and "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher in order to collect data.In the analysis of the data, the Scheffe test has been used as a complementary Post-hoc analysis to determine the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and the groups from which the significant difference originated. The findings were evaluated at .05 significance level. According to the results of the research, it is seen that there is a significant difference between the trait anger levels of the adolescents, the manner of expression of anger and the parental attitudes. According to findings, as the level of democratic attitudes of the families increases, the state of continuous anger, anger holding and anger outwardness of the adolescents decrease and anger control increases; the higher the level of authoritarian and protective/willing attitudes of the parents, the more the adolescents' perpetual anger, anger and inner self-reflection increased and the anger control decreased. In families with a democratic attitude; the girls' level of trait anger, anger holding and anger outwardness is higher than that of men; it is seen that men have more control over their anger than girls. In families that have authoritarian andprotective/willing attitude; it is seen that girls and mens have the same level of trait anger, anger outwardness reflection and anger control, and girls have higher level of trait anger holding than mens.
