Erich Fromm and socıal studies educatıon in Turkey

Erich Fromm as one of the most important philosophers of the 20th century observed the modern society successfully and transmitted into his works. In this study titled as "Erich Fromm and Social Studies Education in Turkey," 7th grade social sciences curriculum studied in Turkey in accordance with the views of Erich Fromm was discussed. This study carried out with qualitative research designs was conducted with document analysis as one of the qualitative research methods. Content analysis was used for data collection and analysis. In the study, learning domains, skills and values that will be directly provided as the elements of a 7th grade social studies curriculum were discussed as conceptual. The titles used for the learning domains were evaluated in accordance with the views of Erich Fromm; and their relationship with the views of Erich Fromm was tried to be revealed. Discussing the relationship of disciplines associated with learning domains (social studies) with Fromm, the relationship of social studies with the views of Fromm was evaluated. Moreover, it was also evaluated according to the views of Fromm whether the ages when these disciplines associated with social studies course were studied were positive or not in terms of these discipline's education. In section of skills that will be directly provided, the skills studied by 4th-7th grades were evaluated in general according to the views of Erich Fromm, and then the skills determined for 7th grade social studies course were evaluated. In section of values that will be directly provided, the meaning of value concept was emphasized, and after discussing the values provided for the 7th grade social sciences course, the values determined for the 7th grade social studies course were evaluated in accordance with the views of Fromm. In conclusion section, the results obtained in finding and interpretation sections were evaluated. In suggestions section, some suggestions were offered with reference to the findings and interpretations obtained in the research.
