Thermal insulation thickness of energy, economic and environmental analysis in province of Erzurum

Abstract (EN)

In our country, energy consumption has been increasing due to developmental state and population. Our country has become dependent on outside financial sources in energy sector which is one of the dynamics of economics because carbon-containing fuel such as natural gas, petrol and coal are imported. Therefore, importance of insulation emerges when the impact of fuel consumption on the country's economy and environmental damage caused by carbon-based fuels are taken into account. In this study, thickness of insulating material which is used in insulating systems has been examined. After a calculation in accordance with TS 825-2008 revision, for a building in Erzurum conditions the thickness of 13,8 cm, 14,6 cm and 15,8 cm have been obtained respectively for three different insulation materials XPS, EPS and glass wool. In comparison to the 5 cm thermal insulation material which is used in Erzurum, 35-38% lower values have been obtained in terms of yearly heating energy and carbon dioxide emission. It has also been observed that, in terms of net savings more than 7,2% savings can be achieved by using minimum insulation thicknesses instead of 5 cm insulation thicknesses.
