Deterrents against the air pollution problem in Erzurum city in the respect of the landscape architecture

Abstract (EN)

The study was carried out in the aim of deterrnining the factors causing the air pollution, an important environment problem of Erzurum city, and deterrents that should be taken in the respect of the Landscape Architecture. Pollution charts were produced using with the average pollution values calculated from recent measured pollution values obtained from the air pollution measurement stations. According to the average of the recent 10 years air pollution values, obtained from 6 air pollution measurement stations that are operated by The Centre of the Environment Problems Searching Administration, in Erzurum city maximum SO2 amount (sulphur dioxide) İs as an average 314 jig/m3 and maximum particle subtance amount is as an average 226 ug/m3 in city centre. Minimum SO2 amount is as an average 1 17ug/m3 and minimum particle subtance amount is as an average 65 ug/m3 obtained from Atatürk University measurement station. In addition, in order to determine the peaple's sensitivity about the air pollution, standard surveys were applied. According to the results from the study it was determined that the most important environment problem of Erzurum was air pollution. In the light of the results of these surveys alternative solutions were proposed. For protecting or minimising the air pollution, deterrents to be taken in the view of the Landscape Architecture were put forward and in the view of the city and region planning, environment engineering and traffic applying deterrents to be taken were determined. 2002, 88 Pages Key Words: Environment, environment problems, air pollution, landscape, landscape architecture.
