A research on the formation of a botanical garden in Erzurum city

Prof Dr. Hasan YILMAZ Recent solution about conservation of nature being destroyed through the environmental problems, responding to people's demand for recreation, increasing the knowledge about plants and their usage have been the botanical gardens. The study was carried out in a site of 35 ha located in Atatürk University field on the left side of E-80 express road current usage, climate, soil, geological structure, vegetation and surrounding area analysis of the site were determined. Socio-economical structure of the city was also considered in the view of being a source for planning. In addition to the obtained data, literature investigation of the subject was performed. And a proposal botanical garden for Erzurum city was designed with examining these botanical gardens. In this proposal botanical garden a section of 33.8 ha was divided for vacant space usage (73.000 m2 for arboretum, 48.000 m2 far picnic area, 28.000 m2 for natural vegetation, 18.000 m2 for betula collection etc.), 1.2 ha for building area (8.000 m2 for propagation and exhibition green house, 1.900 m2 for management, 1.000 m2 for traditional Erzurum house etc.). Draft diagram having site use decision and 1/1500 scaled draft plan were prepared.
