A historical investigation on Erzurum High School

With the start studies done for the modernization of the education in the Ottoman Empire a number of new schools were opened. With the regulation of the General Education, the High schools are among these new schools which were decided to be the high schools. Throughout the country, one of the high schools opened in the city or town centres is the Erzurum High School opened in 1889. In our study, the opening, the historical development, the educational facilities available as well as the contributions of this school to were examined. The studies in the cultural and sportive fields. The thesis consists of five main parts. In the first part, the subject of the research and its problem, the aim of the research, the importance of the research and the limitness of the research have been determined. In the second part, the theoretical frame work concerning the research suject and the basic researches about the subject are told. In the third part, the research method and data analysis are made. In the fourth part, the findings are determined and analyzed. In the fifth part, the result and suggestions take place. At the and of the research, through the ınformation and documents, the subjects about the establishment, the historical development and the educational activities which are realised in the Erzurum High Scholl are studied, and it is understood that all these mentioned above contribute to the Tushish education system in general, but especially for Erzurum itself.
