The laser processing of titanium alloys and steels which are hard phase coated by ESD method and their characterization

Surface modification is one of the most important industrial operation carried out after the heat treatment. The effect of processes such as galvanizing and nickel plating on mechanical and corrosion resistance is often limited. However, Electro spark deposition, namely, electric spark coating offers better performance. The purpose of this research, includes the processing or cutting capacity of ESD (electro spark deposition) coating of titanium alloy materials and steel with hard phase covered with electrodes containing TiB2 and Tic in different proportions using LASER and the characterization of the structure which will occur as a result of this process. The cutting strip made of steel alloy, especially the bimetal band saw blades, it is often used in metal cutting industry. In order to prevent the wear of the cutting edges in time, the service life of the cutting edge may be extended by alloying. The use of titanium alloy is usually concentrated in the aerospace industry and finds its best position there. Laser process ability of the coated plate with a corrosion and abrasion resistant material is important to see industrially reducing the costs and also what types of reactions occur during the cutting process. Therefore, in order to make the research more industrial, a ferrous and a non ferrous material was selected for coating. Furthermore, Ti alloys are used in high temperature applications, but also the coating layer formed on the surface cannot always respond adequately to industrial applications. The performance during laser processing of surface of ESD coated Ti alloy is considered to be important to leave a widespread effect.
