Morphological and syntactic features of Tonyukuk inscriptions, Irk Bitig and the story of aç Bars from old Turkic works

Tonyukuk Inscriptions (8th century), Irk Bitig (9th century?) and the story of Aç Bars (11th century) are significant works belonging to Old Turkic period. These works have a lot of information about the period they were written. In addition to this, they contain important social, political and linguistic passages in the content of the works for their purpose of writing. For this reason, these works have been chosen as sample texts because they reflect the grammatical feautures of Old Turkic period well. Tonyukuk Inscriptions were erected during Eastern Turkic Khaganate II (Köktürk Khaganate II). The story of Aç Bars was written in Old Uygur period. As for Irk Bitig, it was written in Old Turkic runic script/alphabet. The aim of this dissertation is to make a morphological and syntactic analysis on these works and to establish a grammatical data in this way. In this context, two main subjects are emphasized in the dissertation. The purpose of the first of these is to reveal the morphological features of the works and the other one aims to study on the syntax. Noun, types of noun, verbs, verb inflections are analyzed in the morphology while word groups, sentence elements and sentence structures are examined in the syntax. Examples in the dissertation are belong to Talat Tekin and Zemire Gulcalı publications. Nonetheless other publications have also been scanned. These examples were given in a chronological order depending on the writing history of the works.
