Abstract (EN)
Propaganda is not just a perception operation that today's modern societies face. Since the early periods of history, the rulers have resorted to propaganda methods in order to influence and keep under pressure both the ruled and their rivals. Monumental structures, sculptures and reliefs, especialy written texts, were used as propaganda tools. In this study, we discussed the issve of inscriptions as a propaganda tool in the Ancient East and Ancient West societies. Thus, we limited the widuranging propaganda tools by only dealing with inscriptions. Otherwise, if we had dealt with the propaganda content in all texts, both visual and written, we would have to work on thousands of pages.Mesopotamian and Egyptian Kings, which are among the important civilization centers of the Anicent East, spoke highly of themselves in the inscriptions they had written, expressed their actions exaggeratedly and sometimes even tried to describe things that did not happen as if they had happened. Persian Kings also resorted to similar methods. One of the things the Anicent Eastern King did best was to strengthen their success with religious motives. Indeed, they felt the need to emphasize in their inscriptions that all their achievements were thanks to the gods.In the Ancient Western world, propaganda is seen as more mundane. For example, the Roaman emperor Augustus does not talk muck about the gods while describing his actions. This shows the difference in understanding between the Ancient East and the Ancient West worldes.
