Evaluation of knowledge levels of patients aged 18-65 applying to the family medicine clinics at Eskisehir Osmangazi University regarding adult periodic health examinations and screenings.

This study was conducted with 255 patients who presented to our clinic with various complaints between 1.6.2022 and 1.12.2022. The prepared survey form was filled out through face-to-face interviews to collect data, aiming to assess participants' knowledge levels about adult periodic health examination and screenings and reveal the relationship between their knowledge levels and sociodemographic characteristics. Of the participants, 61.6% (n=157) were female, 38.4% (n=98) were male, and the mean age was found to be 31.5±12.3. While 87.8% (n=224) of the participants had no chronic illness, 12.2% (n=31) had a chronic illness. Among the participants, 32.2% (n=82) were smokers, and 35.7% (n=91) consumed alcohol. The mean total knowledge level score of the participants was found to be 14.3±3.0. While participants with a high school education or below constituted 21.2% (n=54), those with a university education or above accounted for 78.8% (n=201). Participants with a university education or above had significantly higher knowledge levels (p<0.001). 22% (n=56) of the participants were healthcare workers. The knowledge level score of healthcare workers was significantly higher compared to non-healthcare workers (p<0.001). Although there was a negative significant relationship between participants' age, body mass index, and knowledge levels, the correlation was weak. There was no significant relationship between knowledge level score and other parameters. In conclusion, the participants had a high level of knowledge. However, considering the limitations of our study, we believe that more research should be conducted in the literature on this topic.
