Artisan gediks (According to the Registry Book number 227 of the Istanbul Kadid)

It would not be an exaggeration to say that the researchers did not pay enough attention to the gedik institution, although it had a great importance within the Ottoman artisan organization. There are many features and practices related to gedik institution that need to be studied and explained by researchers working in the field of artisan history and interested in these issues. In this context, in our study, we dealt with the sharia registry books (nr.227) belonging to the Istanbul Court, all of which consist of records related to gediks. This book was kept after a will in 1860 that ordered all kinds of treatment related to breaches to be handled by the Istanbul Court. The notebook numbered 227, which we examined, contains the records of the years 1868-1870. The aim of our study; Within the scope of the records in the sharia registers numbered 227, which includes the sale of gediks, grants, inheritance, donation and similar transactions, and the records of the gediks, how the gediks were used and how they changed hands in the dates when the book records were kept (1868-1870). Another aim of this study is to describe the concepts and institutions within the Esnaf system and the Ottoman artisan organizations.
