Determinants of ethical leadership as personality, culture of organization, religion orientation and environmental factors: Sample of four and five stars hotels in Antalya

Özet (EN)

"Homelands collapse not cause of lack of money but immorality", those words stated by Cicero, who was one of the important Roman statesmen, in order to emphasize on the importance of moral structure of societies. Significant changes either in our social and cultural or work lives affect our perspectives on facts and concepts. It has been thought that in order to eliminate the negative consequences of these effects, leaders are needed with ethical perspectives. Based on this idea, our research aims to answer the question of "What are the factors that affect formation of an ethical leadership?". The scope of this study consists of personality, organizational culture, religious orientation, family environment, work environment, social environment, and individual characteristics which are taught that have an impact on the formation of ethical leadership. Sample of this study consists of 312 managers, who work in various departments of 4 and 5 star hotels in Antalya region. t-test and ANOVA analyses have been used to determine the differences on the ethical leadership perception and regression analysis has been used to analyze the affect of independent variables on ethical leadership, which is our dependent variable. The validity of developed scale has been examined with factor analysis when the reliability has been examined with the Cronbach Alfa method. As a result of the factor analysis, it has been determined that the ethical leadership scale items gathered under single factor. In consequence of variation analysis, it has been determined that ethical leadership indicates some differences according to the star number of hotels, education level, income level and daily working time of managers. In consequence of regression analyses, it has been found that the personality traits such as agreeableness and openness have an affect on ethical leadership behaviors. In addition; it has been determined that clan culture as an organizational type, intrinsic and extrinsic religious orientation, mother and brothers' effect from the family environment, job experiences which are acquired from the work environment and as the social component the perception of community and friends from neighborhood have a significant effect on the formation of ethical leadership. As a conclusion, it has been determined that all variables that have been included in this study have a partial impact on the formation of ethical leadership.
