Abstract (EN)
Cancer diseases are among the subjects that drug release studies frequently work on. Curcumin is one of the active ingredients used for the treatment of cancer. Curcumin is a natural polyphenolic plant pigment. Curcumin has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and wound-healing properties. It is also known that curcumin is an anticarcinogen substance that induces apoptosis and tumor metastasis. Curcumin has a hydrophobic and weak bioavailable structure. Various polymeric materials can be added to the structure in order to disrupt the hydrophobic structure of curcumin and increase its bioavailability. Controlled release systems ensure that the active substance is released regionally and / or systematically at predetermined rates and at specific time intervals. With controlled drug release, the harmful effects of the drug , the amount of medication needed and the treatment is determined according to the patient and the dosage amount of the drug decreases are observed. Biomaterials used to prepare controlled release systems are polymeric systems that can be obtained naturally or synthetically and their varieties are increasing day by day. The polymeric systems used as carriers must be biodegradable. One of the systems used in this context is ethyl cellulose. Ethyl cellulose is a hydrophobic polymer used for delayed drug release applications. When the studies in the literature were investigated, it was found that curcumin has many studies with carrier systems such as poly lactic co-glycolic acid, epsilon-caprolactone, carboxymethylcellulose, pectin. In this thesis, it is aimed to increase the controlled release of curcumin and its effect duration by keeping the curcumin effective amount to a minimum.. Ethyl cellulose is preferred as the carrier material to strengthen the controlled release and drug delivery properties of curcumin. To make the drug release system more effective in the Curcumin: Ethyl cellulose, by adding chitosan, Chitosan/Curcumin: Ethyl cellulose structure will be synthesized. Characterization studies and release tests of the synthesized materials will be carried out.
