Technical analysis of goals in EURO 2016 European Football Championship

The purpose of this study is to conduct a technical analysis of goals in EURO 2016 European Football Championship. For this purpose, the study is completed in three parts. In the first part, Research methodology is presented. The research data was obtained from the official UEFA website and criteria table was created through Wyscout. In the second part conceptual framework regarding the subject is presented and general information is given. Definition and historical development of football are discussed, and then the definition, aim, significance, development and benefits of match analysis in football and rules that should be followed during match analysis are explained. After discussing the advantages and disadvantages of football match analysis, the methods of match analysis are presented. After explaining the stages of the competition analysis, brief information about EURO 2016 European Football Championship is given before passing to the third part. And the study is concluded with research findings in the third part. SPSS statistical software is used for the data analysis. As findings of the study; it was revealed that most of the goals were scored as a result of organized attacks from the center and most of them were scored inside the penalty area. It is also found that the goals were mostly scored by striker players in the second half of the matches and the assists were usually made by midfield players in the form of short straight ground passes.
