Abstract (EN)

In this study, the wind loads in the x, y and z directions and the overturning moments acting on the bridge decks, are calculated based on the TS EN 1991-1-4 In the first part of the study, information about the scope and purpose of the thesis is given. In the second part of the study, how the wind is formed in meteorological terms, the classification of winds and the standards used for wind load calculation in Turkey are given. In the third part of the study, general information about the bridges is given and the wind-induced damages on the bridges and the parameters affecting the wind load on the bridge deck in the TS EN 1991-1-4 standard are discussed. In the fourth part of the study, the calculation of wind loads in the x, y and z directions and overturning moments acting on the bridge deck according to the TS EN 1991-1-4 standard are explained. In the fifth part of the study, the bridge model for which wind loads will be calculated according to the TS EN 1991-1-4 standard and the parameters affecting the deck wind load are introduced. These parameters are; bridge deck ground clearance, fundamental value of wind velocity, road restraint system, terrain category, deck width, deck depth, and deck length. By giving different values to these parameters, the wind loads acting on the bridge deck were calculated. In the sixth part of the study, how the wind loads acting on the deck calculated in the x and z directions change according to the previously determined parameters is explained with the help of figures. According to the analyzes made; As the ground clearance, the fundamental value of the basic wind velocity and the deck length parameters increase, the wind load increases in all directions and accordingly the overturning moment increases. It has been determined that the road restraint system has no effect on the wind load in the z direction and the highest wind load in the x direction occurs when solid parapets are preferred and the lowest wind loads are when open parapets are preferred. It has been determined that the wind loads and overturning moment in all directions increase as one moves from terrain category 0 to terrain category IV. It has been observed that as the deck width increases, the wind loads in the x and y directions decrease, while the wind loads in the z direction and the overturning moment decrease. It has been determined that as the deck depth increases, the wind loads in the x and y directions increase, while the wind loads in the z direction and the overturning moment decrease. In the seventh part of the study, the results and recommendations are presented.
