Environmental sustainability in the host and country of origin: The case of Ford Automotive

The aim of this study is to examine the differences in environmental sustainability approaches of global businesses in the origin and host countries. For this purpose, is there a distinction between country of origin and host country in the way of environmental reporting of the global enterprise? If there is, what is the reason for the difference?, Can the business sustainability reports be evaluated within the framework of the categories of the "environmental approach chosen"?, In what ways does the level of development of the countries affect the difference in environmental reporting? Answers to their questions were sought. In order to achieve the goal, the differences in the environmental sustainability approaches of the US-based Ford Automotive company, hosted by Turkey, in the two countries and for what reason, are analyzed through content analysis based on the sustainability reports they share. Within the scope of the study, the environmental sustainability reports of the host and country of origin were discussed from two perspectives. First, the environmental sustainability reports of the two countries were examined according to the GRI index environmental categories. Secondly, the reports of the two countries were evaluated within the framework of the Treadmill Production Theory environmental categories. Thus, the diversity and frequency of including environmental categories in the environmental sustainability reports shared by Ford Automotive company in the country of origin and host country; It is discussed on the basis of the environmental categories of the GRI index and the Treadmill Production Theory. As a result of the research, findings such as monitoring the environmental compliance category more effectively in the host country, the waste category being less sharing recently, and the lack of data on the suppliers in the host country have been reached. Therefore, there were differences in the existence and diversity of the environmental categories that the enterprise included in the host country and the country of origin. It has been concluded that the reason for the differences in reporting criteria for environmental sustainability activities in the host and origin country is the environmental policies of the host country. With this study, it is aimed to determine in which environmental categories the environmental sustainability reports will have different attitudes when it comes to environmental responsibilities, even if they belong to the same business; It provides important clues about the perspective of both businesses and countries on environmental sustainability.
