Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between self-efficacy level and care burden in caregivers of bedridden patients. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted between December 2023 and February 2024 with 163 patients and caregivers who applied to the Home Care Unit of Adıyaman Gölbaşı State Hospital. The Demographic Information Form, the Revised Self-Efficacy Scale for Caregiving, and the Caregiver Burden Scale were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 program with a significance level of p<0.05, and descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and percentages), parametric tests (Independent Samples t-test, Mann Whitney U test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Shapiro Wilk test, and Kruskal Wallis Analysis of Variance), Pearson's correlation and Regression analysis were performed. The age range of the caregivers participating in the study was 30-63 years, with a mean age of 49.80±5.96 years. All caregivers (n = 163) were female. The study found that the average caregiver burden score was 47.44±5.16, which is indicative of a moderate level of burden among caregivers. The results revealed high levels of self-efficacy among caregivers in managing their personal time, responding to challenging patient behaviors, controlling negative thoughts about caregiving, and overall caregiving. As a result of the study, a positive and very low severity (r = .158; p<0.05), a positive and low severity (r = .276, p<0.001), and a negative and low severity (r = -.206; p<0.05) relationship was found between care burden and self-time self-efficacy, response self-efficacy to disturbing patient behaviours, and control self-efficacy of upsetting thoughts about care.
