Study of the relationship between psychological well-being and loneliness situation of the people who are caregiver of patients receving homecare

Abstract (EN)

Purpose: In this research, the relationship between psychological well-being and loneliness situation of the people who are caregiver of patients receiving homecare is aimed to be investigated. Material & Method: The population of research, which was conducted in a descriptive relationship-seeking type, consisted of 200 individuals who provided care to patients receiving services from the home health services unit of a district between February and June 2022. The research was conducted with 181 caregivers who volunteered to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria without selecting a sample. Permission for the study was obtained from the ethics committee and the hospital where the study would be conducted. Data of the research has been collected face to face by using "Form of Identifying Info", "Scale of Psychological Well-being" and " De Jong Gierveld Scale of Loneliness". In the evaluation of data, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Cronbach Alfa, Independent Sample t-test, Oneway ANOVA, Bonferroni test, Pearson correlation test were used within SPSS 26 packet program. Results: It has been found out that 72.4% of the participants were women, 58.6% of them were primary school graduate, 86% of them are not working at a job. It has been also found out that 91.7% of participants are living in the same house with their patients, 66.9% of them have support about care giving. There has been a statistically meaningful difference (p<0.05) on caregivers' scores on loneliness scale according to their educational situations, working situations, evaluating their own health, living in the same house with their patients, situation about time of care-giving, having support on care-giving. There has also been a statistically meaningful difference (p<0.05) on caregivers' scores on psychological well-being scale according to their sexes, educational situations, working situations, evaluating their own health, living in the same house with their patients, situation about time of care-giving. At this research it has been found that there is a high level negative relationship(p<0.05) between total scores of psychological well-being scale and total subdimensional scores of loneliness scale. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it has been found out that the lonelier the caregivers become the more their psychological well-being levels reduce.
