The comparison of emotional intelligence levels and marital adjustments of couples

The aim of this research is to compare the emotional intelligence levels and marital adjustments of couples. The sample of the research is formed by 220 spouses who live in İzmir, İstanbul, Malatya and Erzurum. The Emotional Quotient Inventory and Birtchnell Spouse Evaluation Inventory have been used as a data collection instruments. Research data has been analyzed by using SPSS; One-Way Anova, t-test, multiple regression analysis. As a result of the research; there is no significant difference between the level of emotional intelligence and the gender of couples. However it is obtained that the level of emotional intelligence shows significant difference according to the level of education, the level of income and the length of marriage. In addition, it is found that the level of marital adjustment indicates significant difference due to the gender, the level of income and the length of marriage, but in contrary, there is no significant difference that due to the educational levels, and also the level of emotional intelligence and the level of marital adjustment of the spouses indicate significant difference at the sub-dimensions of the general mood due to their gender.
