The effect of married women's negative childhood experiences on sexual life quality

Aim: The objective of the study is to determine the effects of married women's negative childhood experiences on their sexual life quality. Material and Method: The research is descriptive and correlational. The population of the research consisted of married women aged 18 and over who actively use social media platforms (WhatsApp, facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.). The sample of the research was 212 women with a 5% margin of error, 95% confidence interval, 80% ability to represent the universe according to power analysis. Personal Information Form, Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire-Female and Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire were used to collect research data. Results: In the study, it was found that 24.1% of women were exposed to physical abuse, 6.1% to sexual abuse, and 9.9% to neglect during childhood. In the study, it was determined that the sexual quality of life of women who had low satisfaction with their childhood and who were exposed to physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect during childhood were lower (p<0.05). It was found that there was a moderately negative and significant relationship between adverse childhood experiences and sexual quality of life (r=-0.304, p=0.001). In the established multiple linear regression model; a significant relationship was found between satisfaction with childhood (β-coefficient=-0.154; p=0.047) and adverse childhood experiences (β-coefficient=-0.174; p=0.047) with sexual quality of life. It was found that these variables explained 11.1% of the total variance. Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was determined that negative childhood experiences and decreased satisfaction in childhood affect the quality of sexual life negatively.
