Examination of marital relationship quality in context of differentiation of self and relational authenticity

The purpose of this research was to examine the marital relationship quality in the context of differentiation of self and relational authenticity. The group of the research consisted of 603 married individuals, 328 women (54.4%) and 275 men (45.6%), in the age range of 18 - 63 years (Mean =31.98 Sd= 8.00) who reached by using the online form. In the study, Personal Information Form, Differentiation of Self Scale, Perceived Romantic Relationship Quality Scale (PRRQS) and The Authenticity in Relationships Scale (AIRS) were applied to participants. The obtained data were analyzed with SPSS 22 statistical package program. As a result of the analyses which making in the research, significant relationships were found between marital relationship quality, differentiation of self and relational authenticity. According to the results of hierarchical regression analysis, taking an I-position and emotional cutoff which subscales of differentiation of self and unacceptability of deception and intimate risk taking which subscales of authenticity in relationships are predicting the marital relationship quality. However, differentiation of self, relational authenticity and marital relationship quality showed significant differences according to sex. The results of the present study have been discussed in cultural context and context of researches which within the field of marriage and family counseling and suggestions have been made.
