Abstract (EN)
This study examines the role of communication skills level and unconditional self-acceptance level in predicting marital adjustment of married couples. The research model is relational survey model. It was aimed to form the research group with the snowball method. A total of 448 participants were studied as a sample. Of these participants, 332 were women and 116 were men. Data were collected through Personal Information Form, Effective Communication Skills Scale, Perceived Adjustment in Close Relationships Scale and Unconditional Self-Acceptance Scale. The findings obtained in the study were firstly analyzed by using t-test, one-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc tests for the variables that were found to differ according to demographic variables. Then, simple and multiple regression analyses were used to examine the relationship between marital adjustment and the level of communication skills and unconditional self-acceptance. When the collected findings were examined, marital adjustment showed differences according to the gender variable, while no differences were found in the variables of marriage duration, age, income level, number of children and education level. When the communication variable was analyzed, it was seen that the number of children showed differences, while no differences were found in gender, marriage duration, age, income level and education level. Finally, when the unconditional self-acceptance variable and demographic variables were examined, differences were found according to the duration of marriage and age, while no differences were found according to gender, income level, number of children and education level. As a result of the regression analysis conducted to address the relationship between the concept of marital adjustment and other variables, a low level significant positive relationship was found between marital adjustment and communication skills, while a low-level negative relationship was found between marital adjustment and unconditional self-acceptance. The results of the study were consistent with other studies in the literature. The results in the literature and the findings of the study were evaluated and discussed together. It is thought that low-income group, middle-age group and socio-demographically low-level participants could not be reached due to the fact that the study collected findings on the internet at the request of the person. For this reason, it was suggested that different studies could be conducted in terms of the sample of the study and the results could be compared. Finally, it is thought that there is a lack of social knowledge about the concept of unconditional self-acceptance. It is suggested that extra informative applications can be made in this regard.
