Attachment in marriage and affects of attachment style in management of confliction

The aim of the study is to investigate the couple's attachment styles and how these attachment styles effect the marital conflicts merging in the family. The study group consists of randomly selected 300 individuals, 150 couples living in Trabzon. All the data were collected from these couples for further statistical analysis. The data collection instruments were "Relationship Scale Questionnaire" orijinally developed by Griffin and Bartholomew (1994), and adopted to Turkish population by Sümer and Güngör (1999), and "Conflict Reaction Scale", originally developed by Johnson and Johnson (2000) and Turkish adaptation made by author. A demographics form was also in the study. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the study. A part of the descriptive statistics means frequency distribution, standard deviation and ranges were included. Further inferential statistics were used to test main hypothesis with Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Mest and ANOVA. The result of the study showed that there is no significant positive relationship between effective (positive) attachment style and effective conflict management style as expected. However, there were no gender differences for attachment styles and conflict management styles. There were also group differences regarding marital period,marital arrangement type and educational status on attachment styles. The result were discussed in terms of previous studies and some future research recommendations were implemented. vm
