Utilization of different plant wastes as adhesive filler in theplywood industry

The aim of this study is to investigate the usability of different plant wastes (sesame husk, wheat bran, green walnut shells, olive pulp) as adhesive filler instead of wheat flour. In this way, wheat flour consumed by the society by being enriched with basic vitamins and minerals will be brought to the food sector. In addition, plywood production costs will be reduced. For this purpose, urea formaldehyde adhesive mixtures were prepared by replacing the fillers ground in different sizes (100 mesh, 60 mesh and 40 mesh) with the wheat flour used in the glue mixture at 15%, 25% and 50% rates. With the obtained adhesive mixtures, 3-layer plywoods were produced from beech (Fagus orientalis) and black pine (Pinus nigra) veneers. Within the scope of this purpose, the chemical properties of the fillers to be used in the study and the adhesive mixtures formed with the fillers were investigated. The physical properties, mechanical properties, formaldehyde emission and thermal conductivity values of the plywoods produced with the adhesive mixtures were determined. Plant wastes are not suitable for use as they reduce the mechanical resistance of pine plywood. It has been observed that plant wastes do not reduce the mechanical resistance of beech plywood and reduce formaldehyde emissions. Therefore, it is suitable to use plant wastes as filler in beech plywood.
