Abstract (EN)

Turkey is a seismically active region that has suffered significant damages from past earthquakes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the structural performance of reinforced concrete structures according to the Turkish Building Seismic Code 2018 using different ground motion data sets. In this study, the seismic behavior of an existing reinforced concrete structure located in the east of Turkey is evaluated. The case study of the existing reinforced concrete structure is used as an exhibition center. According to the Turkish Building Seismic Code 2018, the structure is considered as a "Building where people are short-term and concentrated". According to the Turkish Building Seismic Code 2018, the existing bearing system should provide the Controlled Damage (KH) performance level, which is considered as a minimum performance level determined, under the expected earthquake loads. The non-linear structural performance of the reinforced concrete structure is evaluated under simulated, artificial, synthetic and real excitations in accordance with the ground motion level given in the Turkish Building Seismic Code 2018. Earthquake ground motion level with a return period of 475 years and a probability of exceeding 10 percent in 50 years is used. Damage distributions, base shear forces and relative floor displacements are discussed considering the influence of variation of ground motion.
