Abstract (TR)
This study compared functional status between people with Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) and healthy subjects who have different physical activity levels. A total number of 68 people, 34 T2DM individuals and 34 healthy subjects between the age group 40-65 years, were included in the study. Patient with T2DM and healthy subjects were then divided into two groups of low physical activity (LPA) and medium physical activity (MPA) based on International Physical Activity questionnaire. Both groups contained individuals with 17 LPA and 17 MPA levels. The sociodemographic and laboratory data of the participating people were recorded. Body composition, flexibility, diabetes symptoms, physical activities, functional capacity, pulmonary functions, sense, muscle strength, balance and quality of life were examined within the study’s scope. Whereas an significant statistical difference (p<0,05) was examined in the body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist-hip circumference measurement and abdomen-thigh skinfold values, balance evaluations of Type 2 DM individuals with LPA levels, these evaluations were similar for people with MPA levels (p>0,05). While T2DM individuals with LPA levels show significantly more hyperglycemia, neurological, cardiovascular, ophthalmologic and overall score values, T2DM individuals with MPA levels only show more hyperglycemia values compared to the healthy subjects (p<0,05). The mean MET values of armband evaluations for Type 2 DM individuals with MPA were observed to be lower than the healthy subjects (p<0,05). On the other hand, footsteps taken by T2DM individuals with MPA were lower than healthy subjects. During a 6 minutes walking test, the VO2max in T2DM individuals with LPA and MPA were found to be low; the walking distance in all groups were similar (p<0,05, p>0,05). In a comparison between Type 2 DM individuals with LPA and MPA levels and healthy subjects, T2DM individuals show lower values in sense test (p<0,05), and statistical similarities in vibration sense and flexibility (p>0,05). OFA level due to T2DM was found to be high on average, and percentage PEF individuals. MİP value of low and moderate physical activity levels were higher in patients with T2DM (p<0,05). The lower extremity muscle strength evaluations showed peroneal muscles and the muscle strength of dorsiflexion in T2DM individuals with LPA levels and tibialis anterior, peroneal muscles and the muscle strength of ankle dorsiflexion of T2DM individuals with MPA were observed to be lower compared to the healthy subjects (p<0,05). In conclusion, as the physical activity levels of Type 2 DM individuals decrease, body composition, diabetes symptoms significantly increase and functional capacity, muscle strength, balance and sense parameters were observed to be low. Key words: Type 2 Diabetes, Physical Activity, Functional Status
