Effect of 8 weeks technical training specific to different racket sports on selected motor skills

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of 8 weeks of technical training specific to different racket sports on selected motor skills and physical characteristics. The study sample consisted of 53 athletes from private clubs in Batman province, actively participating in badminton (n=23), table tennis (n=20), and tennis (n=10), with a mean age of 10.57 ± 1.87 years, a mean height of 141.91 ± 15.22 cm, and a mean body weight of 36.00 ± 11.43 kg. Training sessions specific to badminton, table tennis and tennis were performed 3 days a week and 60-90 minutes a day, which lasted for 8 weeks. Right and left hand grip strength test, sit-and-reach flexibility test, vertical jump test, 20m sprint test, Illinois agility test, reaction test and Bourdon attention test were administered to the participants before and after 8 weeks of training. SPSS software was used for statistical analysis of the data obtained at the end of the study. Data are presented as arithmetic mean and standard deviation. 3 x 2 mixed design ANOVAs were conducted in all analyses. In these analyses, the branch is a between-subjects factor with the levels of badminton, tennis and table tennis players, and the measurement is within-subjects factor with the levels of pre-test and post-test. If there was a significant interaction between measurement and branch, post-hoc tests with Bonferroni correction were used to determine the source of this interaction. Statistical results were evaluated at p<0.05 significance level. According to the results of pre- and post- test, right paw strength, sit-and-reach flexibility, vertical jump, Illinois agility, reaction test, an effect was detected between their values. According to the pre- and post-test analyses of left paw strength, 20 m sprint and Bourdon attention test, effects were observed between the values. When the values between branches were examined, a significant difference was found between the sit-and-reach flexibility test, vertical jump test, Illinois agility test, reaction test and 20 m sprint values of the athletes participating in tennis, badminton and table tennis. No significant interaction was detected between branch and measurement for right and left paw strength, sit-and-reach flexibility, vertical jump, Illinois agility and reaction test measurements. A significant interaction was observed between branches and measurement in favor of badminton and table tennis groups in the Burdon attention test and 20 m sprint test. In conclusion, statistically significant differences were found between the pre-test and post-test measurement values for the Burdon attention test, Illinois agility test, 20 m speed test, and left-hand grip strength. When the values between sports were examined, athletes participating in tennis showed statistically significant improvement compared to athletes participating in badminton and table tennis, achieving higher scores on the Burdon attention test. athletes participating in tennis showed statistically significant improvement by achieving higher scores on the Burdon attention test compared to athletes participating in badminton and table tennis, and a significant interaction was observed between sports and measurements in the 20 m speed test.
