Communication skills and life satisfaction of university students that choose different recreational activities

The aim of this study is to investigate communication skills and life satisfaction of university students who prefer different recreational activities. A total of 1731 students, including 562 women and 1169 boys, participated in the study as volunteers. An information form has been created to determine the students' recreational preferences and socio-demographic information. In order to measure life satisfaction, the life satisfaction scale developed by Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffin (1985) and adapted to Turkish by Dağlı and Baysal (2016), and the communication developed by Owen and Bugay (2014) to measure communication skills. skills scale was used. SPSS 23 package program was used to analyze the data obtained. Descriptive analyzes were applied to the descriptive preferences and socio demographic information. Recreational preferences were grouped by clustering analysis and t test and Anova test were applied to compare life satisfaction and communication skills. The relationship between life satisfaction and communication skills was investigated by pearson correlation analysis. A statistically significant difference was found in the comparison of the preferred recreational activity type and communication skills (Table: 3.6). There was a statistically significant difference in terms of Life Satisfaction with the type of activity preferred (p <0.05). When the students' life satisfaction and communication skills sub-dimensions were examined, a statistically significant relationship was found. The highest relationship was 2 Expressing Yourself adır (r = .232, p <0.05). As a result, it was found that communication skills were higher among students who prefer social activities. When examined according to gender, this situation was found to be statistically significant in the Active Listening and Nonverbal Communication sub-dimension and it was observed that women got higher scores than men. In life satisfaction comparison, it was seen that sportive activities got the highest score among different recreational choices and life satisfaction of those who preferred sport activities were found to be higher.
