Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it was aimed to investigate the anesthetic effects of rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) essential oil and 2-phenoxyethanol in goldfish (Carassius auratus) at different water temperatures. Anesthetic trials were carried out at water temperatures of 14°C and 20°C. Concentrations of 250, 300 and 350 µl/lt for rosewood essential oil (ArEO) and 600, 700 and 800 µl/lt for 2-phenoxyethanol (2-PE) were tested. When deep anesthesia (AD) and full recovery (RF) are considered together, the ideal ArEO concentration was determined as 300 µl/lt at 14°C and 250 µl/lt at 20°C. The ideal 2-PE concentration was determined as 800 µl/lt at both water temperatures. As the ArEO and 2-PE concentrations increased, the AD durations were shortened and the RF durations were prolonged. Concentrations of anesthetic agents correlated negatively with induction times and positively with recovery times. A weak negative correlation was found between AD and RF times (R2=0.3093) in ArEO anesthetic agent at 14ºC water temperature, and a negative relationship was found between AD and RF times at 20ºC water temperature (R2=0.5833). A negative correlation was found between AD and RF times in 2-PE anesthetic agent at 14ºC and 20ºC water temperatures (R2=0.5092 and R2=0.6357, respectively). There is a strong negative relationship (R2=0.9937 and R2=0.9615, respectively) between ArEO AD times and ArEO concentrations at 14ºC and 20ºC. A strong negative correlation (R2=0.9982 and R2=0.9996) was found between 2-PE AD times and 2-PE concentrations at 14ºC and 20ºC water temperatures. There is a strong positive correlation (R2=0.9941 and R2=0.8157, respectively) between ArEO RF times and ArEO concentrations at 14ºC and 20ºC. A strong positive correlation (R2=0.9435 and R2=0.9807, respectively) was found between 2-PE RF times and 2-PE concentrations at 14ºC and 20ºC water temperatures. As a result of increasing water temperature, it was observed that anesthesia and recovery times were shortened in both anesthetic agents. The interaction of water temperature and anesthetic concentration on induction and recovery times was found to be significant for ArEO and 2-PE. No adverse effects of ArEO and 2-PE anesthetics have been observed on goldfish. As a result, ArEO provides anesthetic agent properties in goldfish at both water temperatures.
