Masking effect comparison of different TYPE opaquer resins

The aim of this study is to evaluate the color masking ability of two different opaquer composite materials (Filtek Universal Restorative Pink Opaque and Masking Liner) and universal resin composite using three different instrumental color analysis methods. To imitate the discolored tooth structure, a C4-colored composite disc with a diameter of 8 mm and a thickness of 2 mm was prepared at the base. Opaque composite resins were formed with 8 mm diameter and 0.5 mm thickness Teflon molds, and universal composite resin material was prepared with 8 mm diameter and 1 mm thickness. The analysis of the color was done using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade V; VITA Zahnfabrik) and photographs were taken with a digital camera (700D, Canon) and the smartphone attached with a light correcting device (Smile Lite; Smile Line). After that, all digital photographs were evaluated with software (Classic Color Meter, Apple Corp), selected because it encompassed parameters in the CIELab color space. The statistical analyses were performed by Shapiro-Wilk, Kruskal Wallis, Anova, Friedman, post-hoc Bonferroni test (p<0,05). The Bland-Altman analysis was performed to evaluate a bias between the mean differences and to estimate an agreement interval. When the opaquer composite resins were compared, the group with the highest color masking ability was found to be POU. There was a statistically significant difference between the Smile Lite MDP, DSLR, and spectrophotometer however, the Bland-Altman analysis is applied to ∆E values in SFM and MDP groups and was found the agreement between the two of them.
