Assosiation criminal turkish characters with the Turkish society in the examples of Fatih Akin's movies

Fatih Akın who's family migrated to Germany from Turkey, has scrutinized social incidents, phenomenon of immigration, family and identity crises in his films. In his movies Fatih Akın, who has many international awards, reflected life of Turks in Germany, problems of second generation immigrant youth, stereotyped ideas about Turkey, and Turkish people, alleged incompatibility caused by the cultural difference, identity, and belongingness, and mostly used characters who have a criminal background. Examining the Turkish characters who commit crimes in Fatih Akın's films is important in terms of determining how immigrant Turks are seen in German society and how they are shown, given the mass effect of cinema. Examinations in this study, which are limited to Short Sharp Shock, Head On ve Edge of Heaven in order to avoid repetition, are made by using the inductive method, critical discourse analysis, and interpretative approach. Remarkable returning motif in these three movies is that shows that by generalisation over nationality, and crimes be attributed to culture, and classification of Turkish people, Fatih Akın points out Turkish characters at the source of immigrants' problems in his films. This hypothesis is supported over by characters who are least associated with Turkey, speaking Turkish as a second language, successful, accepted and adapted in the society. Although in his movies Fatih Akın seems to have focused on immigrants and their children, actually it's possible to detect that he is appealing to German audience due to the criticism of Turkey. The aim of this study is examining the movies of Fatih Akın, who is a director and a screenwriter grew up in a multiculturel environment, by interpreting in the context of interculturality, in which ways immigrants reflected to the German viewers through characters, and stories in his movies.
