Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the relationships between adherence to the Mediterranean diet, sleep quality, and body composition in overweight or obese adults. The study included 225 participants, and sociodemographic characteristics, dietary habits, anthropometric measurements, adherence to the Mediterranean diet, and sleep quality were evaluated. The majority of participants had low to moderate adherence to the Mediterranean diet, with only 7.6% showing high adherence. As adherence to the Mediterranean diet increased, body mass index decreased (p<0.05). Participants with high adherence to the Mediterranean diet consumed higher amounts of nutrients such as daily protein, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, and had a higher omega-3/omega-6 ratio in their diets. 46.2% of participants reported poor sleep quality, with 32% having less than 7 hours of sleep (p<0.05). No correlation was found between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and sleep quality (p>0.05). In conclusion, it has been determined that increased adherence to the Mediterranean diet may contribute to body composition and nutritional quality; further research will contribute to the literature.
