Time thought in philosophical texts: Plato, Aristotle, Augustine

The problem of what exactly of time is an issue that has been debated for centuries and is still controversial topic. For this reason, many questions about the eternity, measurability and mental dimension of the time have been tried to be answered for centuries. In this study, these questions about time were asked to find answers within the framework of the views of Plato, Aristotle and Augustine. The study is discussed in detail in three main sections. The first section stretching from ancient age to Aristotle. This section serves as an infrastructure for better understanding of other chapters. The second part of this thesis establishes a framework of the main text of the thesis. This section is based on the concept of time in the philosophical texts of Plato, Aristotle and Augustine. Therefore, The Timeaeus of Plato, Physics of Aristotle and The Confessions of Augustine will be our main sources in the study. In the third part of our thesis, we will comparatively examine the concept of time from base texts of Plato, Aristotle and Augustine. Thus, we will try to find out the similarities and differences of these three philosophers in their concept of time views.
