Motherhood in feminist alternative media: Examples of 5Harfliler and Çatlak Zemin

In this thesis, the ways in which motherhood is discussed in the feminist alternative media are mentioned. After the concept of motherhood in the feminist literature is explained in detail, digital-alternative media, which is considered the most important field of action of fourth- wave feminism, is explained. In order to see how motherhood is handled and discussed in digital platforms created by feminists today, articles on motherhood on the digital platforms called 5Harfliler and Çatlak Zemin, where feminist discourse and politics are developed on the internet in Turkey, were examined. The articles on both platforms were first subjected to thematic analysis then common theme titles were determined for the articles. Then, articles on motherhood under the titles were analyzed by making a feminist critical discourse analysis. Contrary to the representations of femininity and motherhood in the traditional media, it has been observed that there are various representations of motherhood and discussions with different perspectives on both platforms. The way the concept of motherhood is discussed in 5Harfliler and Çatlak Zemin points to important subjects about both digital-alternative media and today's feminism.
