The subject in the feminist theory

The aim of this thesis is to study the concept of the subject in the context of the main moments in the history of feminist theory. The changes in the concept of subject have been discussed in the history of feminist theory. The concept of subject holds an important place in the understanding of becoming woman. Feminist theory is influenced by the history of philosophy and psychoanalysis. First of all, the concept and critique of modern subject has been discussed in order to understand the interactions of feminist theory. Then, the determination of the modern Cartesian subject in the first wave feminism on the basis of legal and citizenship is elaborated. Then we discuss Simon De Beavoir's the notion of women. In The Second Sex Simon De Beavoir transformes notion of women into a category that was not natural but a concept constructedin social process. Later, the second wave feminism's strong defense of the universal female subject and the analysis of female subject by French feminists Julia Kristeva and Luce Irigaray have been discussed. In the last chapter, the study of postcolonialism, intersectionality, queer theory and new materialism were discussed.
