Abstract (EN)
This study was planned to investigate the anthropometric features of the hand and wrist and the anatomical structure of the canalis carpi on fetus cadavers. In this study, the hand and wrist regions of 35 fetus cadavers with intrauterin ages ranging between 21.2 and 39.2 weeks that had been embalmed in 10% formaldehyde solution in the laboratory of Anatomy Department were examined. Anthropometric measurements of fetus cadavers were performed on the wrist and hand. To determine the borders of the canalis carpi, the wrist and palmar face of the hand were dissected with classical anatomical dissection methods. After determining the level of canalis carpi, transverse section was obtained with guillotine from this level. All exposed transverse sections were imaged with a digital camera. ImageJ software was used to measure and calculate the width, height, cross-sectional area of the canalis carpi; cross-sectional area of the nervus medianus, and cross-sectional area of the flexor tendons. Fetuses were grouped according to gender, intrauterine age, presence of neural tube defect and lateralization. The numerical values obtained from the calculations were compared between the groups. As a result of the comparisons, some differences were found. According to the findings obtained in our study; it was concluded that canalis carpi anatomy and innate anatomical features may contribute to the development of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). A thorough understanding of the anatomy of the canalis carpi will contribute to an understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of CTS and the development of therapeutic strategies.
