Abstract (EN)
Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), commonly known as blockchain, represents a paradigm shift in how information is collected, stored and shared across networks. Characterized by decentralization, transparency and security, this technology has already transcended its association with cryptocurrencies and has brought great opportunities and significant challenges in various sectors. The opportunities offered by DLT are multifaceted and potentially transformative. In finance, it promises to streamline transactions, reduce costs, increase transparency and security, and potentially provide access to financial services worldwide. However, these opportunities are intertwined with complex challenges. From a technological point of view, there are significant barriers such as scalability, energy consumption and integration with existing systems. Scalability issues remain a critical challenge, especially due to high transaction volumes. The significant energy consumption of some DLT applications, especially proof of work blockchains, raises environmental concerns. Furthermore, integrating DLT with legacy systems requires significant investments and poses operational challenges. From the perspective of regulators, the decentralized nature of DLT poses a complex challenge for legislators and regulators aiming to protect consumers and ensure financial stability without hindering innovation. Legal frameworks need to be developed to address issues of jurisdiction, data privacy and standardization while mitigating the risks of DLT. This research examines various applications of DLT in the financial sector, exploring the profound opportunities it offers to enhance transparency, efficiency, and security. It also offers insights into the future potential of this groundbreaking technology by critically analyzing the technological and regulatory challenges inherent in the widespread adoption of DLT. Through a comprehensive examination of current and potential applications, this research aims to raise awareness of the obstacles encountered while ensuring a balanced view of DLT.
