The relationships of metacognition and emotion regulation difficulties with Posttraumatic Stress symptoms in women subjected to physical violence

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the relationship between post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD) and metacognitive and emotion regulation difficulties in women who applied to Mersin Şiddet Önleme ve İzleme Merkezi because they were exposed to physical violence. The universe of the research consists of 117 women over the age of 18 who are residents of Mersin province and who have been subjected to physical violence. The "Metacognition Scale-30" will be used to determine the metacognitive levels of women subjected to physical violence, the "Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale" will be used to measure the levels of emotion regulation difficulties, the "Traumatic Stress Symptoms Scale" was used to measure the level of post-traumatic stress symptoms of women and the researcher used the prepared Demographic Information Form was used. Data obtained from participants. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed with SPSS program. Parametric tests were used due to the normal distribution of this study, which was conducted using the relational screening method. It was found that positive belief, cognitive trust, uncontrollability and danger from the metacognitive sub-dimensions of women exposed to physical violence could not predict the cognitive awareness sub-dimension at a significant level, but the need for control sub-dimension predicted it at a significant level. Another finding of the study was that a significant correlation was detected between the difficulty in emotion regulation and traumatic stress symptoms sub-dimensions. It was found that the participants' work status, marital status, educational status, relationship with the perpetrator and frequency of violence scores did not differ according to the main variables. The results of the research were discussed within the scope of the relevant literature and suggestions were made for future studies.
