The tradition of "introductions" in fiqh: Discussions of usul in the introductions of usul al-fiqh within the frame of Mulla Gurani's ed-Durer

Usul al-fıqh, which deals with the ways of reach from legal sources (al-adilla al-shar'iyya) has interacted with other religious sciences. Usul al-fıqh acquires elaborate conceptualized principles from the science of Kalam, which is considered superior to it in terms of purpose and scope, from the science of fiqh, which is accepted subordinate of it, and from Arabic language sciences as the main language of such evidences. These principles are usually included in the introduction chapters of the works of usul al-fıqh. Principles (mabâdî), which have started to be included in the works of usul al-fıqh from the time of the muteqaddimûn, have been continued by usuli scholars. In our study, we discuss the principles (mabadi) and the discussions made on these principles which Mulla Gürani discussed in the chapter of "introduction" of his work "ed-Durer al-Lawami'" that is exegesis of "Jam' al-Jawami'" written by Subki, who is leading usuli scholar of the period of mutaakhkhirun. This search consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction part, the boundaries of the study were determined and an examination was made on chapters of "introductions" handled in the period of mutaakhkhirun, and was tried to determine its position by comparing the "introduction" of Gürani with the "introductions" of previous usuli scholars. In the first chapter, Gürani's biography is briefly mentioned; in the second and third chapters Gürani's principles (mabadi) related to kalam and fıqh are discussed in detail. Finally, it has been tried to determine the debates and the views that Gürânî preferred during the discussions and the school he followed.
