Abstract (EN)
This thesis explores the flat illustration style, which has become increasingly prevalent in digital media and user interface design. Defined by visual simplicity, solid color use, and the absence of shading, this style has emerged as a prominent visual language in contemporary communication. The research approaches flat illustration from both historical and formal perspectives, examining its links to modernist graphic design movements such as Bauhaus and the Swiss Typographic Style. Through an analysis of core visual elements—typography, color, texture, and composition—the thesis discusses how flat illustration constructs meaning and enhances clarity. It also investigates the application of this style across various fields including advertising, children's publishing, fashion, and scientific communication. Rather than being purely aesthetic, flat illustration is shown to support direct, accessible, and purposeful communication. The study aims to provide both a visual and theoretical understanding of the role flat illustration plays in today's digital design culture.
