Abstract (EN)

In this study, we studied colon transit time by using radyo-opaque markers in patiens with functional constipation and constipation predominant irritable bowel syndrome according to Roma II criteria.15 patients with functional constipation and 15 patients with IBS-C were studied. In our study we give 30g/day fiber in diet for 7 days before taking the radio-opaque markers. The patients ingested markers and on the fifth day a plain abdominal radiograph was performed and the markers on the colon and rectosigmoid were counted. We found longer colonic transit times in 4 of the 15 (%27) patients with functional constipation and 1 of the 15 (%7) patients with IBS-C. We decide that there is a correlation between age and longer colonic transit times.Consequently, we found that prolonged colonic transit time is sık in functional constipated patients than patients with IBS-C.
