Textual coherence in surah al-Furqan

Abstract: This research aimed to study textual cohesion and explore its mechanisms in Surah Al-Furqan. There was a necessary to start the research with a chapter that includes the definition of the terms of text linguistics and textual cohesion and its mechanisms, followed by the study chapter that dealt with the formal and semantic mechanisms of textual cohesion in Surah Al-Furqan, starting with lexical coherence, and presenting its mechanisms for repetition and contradiction, and it showed the effect of their weaving on the cohesion of the text. Then the research moved on to grammatical cohesion, so it studied the most prominent picture of it represented in the structural repetition and restricted its patterns, traced its places, and presented in the multiplication of that the characteristics of each structural pattern and its resulting of rhythmic properties and semantic effects. Then the research studied the semantic relations in the surah, and it nominated three relationships for the study: The semantic relationship between the statements of the polytheists that include the denial of the Qur'an and prophecy, the descending in text and the semantic coherence that occurs with the relationship of summarization and detail to the four text points, which are: divine perfections, the Holy Qur'an, the Prophet Muhammad, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, and the addressees by the message, explaining in each of that relationship the effect it had on the semantic coherence of Surah Al-Furqan.
