Özet (EN)

AYATA, B. The Impact of Weight Loss on Insulin Resistance in Women with Obesity and Insulin Resistance Living in Gaziantep Nizip District.Hasan Kalyoncu University, Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Graduate Thesis, Gaziantep, 2018. Insulin resistance is a decrease in insulin sensitivity in muscle, fat and liver, and elevated blood glucose levels, while the level of insulin in the blood is normal or above normal.Insulin resistance affects many organ systems leading to metabolic disorders. The most important factor leading to insulin resistance is obesity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the change in HOMA-IR value due to weight loss. This study was carried out on 25 women who were randomly sampled using a body mass index of 25 kg\m² or more and diagnosed with insulin resistance at Nizip State Hospital. Socio-demographic characteristics, body mass indexes, eating habits and HOMA-IR values of women were examined. Nutritional therapy was applied for eight weeks, and the changes in insulin and blood glucose levels were analyzed. The initial body weight of the women included in the study was 92,9 ± 14,9 kg, while the body weight at the end of 8 weeks was 86,1 ± 13,5 kg. When HOMA-IR values are examined; the initial HOMA-IR value was 4,42 ± 2,10 mg \ dL, while the HOMA-IR value at the end of 8 weeks decreased to 2,83 ± 1,21 mg \ dL. The decrease in insulin resistance with decreasing weight was statistically significant (p <0.05). Weight control is necessary to reduce the insulin resistance. Key Words: Weight Loss, Homa-IR, Obesity, İnsulin Resistance, Body Mass İndex.
