Development of an assesment scale for the fall risk in pregnants

The study was planned in order to develop an Assesment Scale for the Fall Risk in Pregnants. This is a methodological study which was carried out in Samsun Maternity and Child Health Hospital Pregnant Polyclinic. The target population of the study was constitued of all the pregnants who applied to the polyclinic between November 2016 and November 2017. The sample of the study consisted of 105 pregnants in the 1st trimester, 210 in the 2nd trimester and 320 in the 3rd trimester (total 630) all of them them were voluntary participants who met the criteria for being included in the study. In this study, a Pregnant Information Form including 10 questions about the pregnant and an Assesment Scale Draft for the Fall Risk in Pregnants developed during the study were used as data collection tools. In the scale development process, an item pool draft of 63 questions were formed and presented to the experts for their opinions. As a result of the content validity analyses, the mean value of the items was found to be 0.95 which was evaluated as sufficient and the number of the scale items was reduced to 42 in line with the experts recommendations. The scale was finalized after its pilot study was applied to 30 participants first. The Cronbach alfa coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.604, which means that it is moderately reliable. It was understood that the CART and QUEST algorithm for the scale was a highly successful model for estimating the fall risks of the pregnants. Consequently, an Assesment Scale consisting of 42 items was developed to determine the fall risk in pregnants and it was found to be a valid and reliable tool in accordance with the intended purpose.
